9 days later…
Now that you have crossed over into a new year, a new season, a new opportunity to write the script of your life afresh….a chance to make it better… what are your aspirations? What do you look forward to, and hope to achieve? What do you long for and dream about?
And how do you endure the race?
The beginning of the race (or new year) is always filled with excitement and great expectations. A lot of hope for a better tomorrow, big dreams to achieve. One feels like there is no mountain that they cannot scale. But hey, how far into the year does this hope keep alive?
Well, I have found it helpful to keep some things in mind as I journey through every page and chapter of life…
1. Stick to your lane. Keeping a clear goal helps to maintain focus. We are gifted and endowed differently. Therefore it doesn’t help to ape another person, because they appear to be making it. Someone once said that the grass is greener where you water it (Neil Barringham). Till your ground until it bears the fruit you want.
2. Avoid distractions. They will come. Just don’t let yourself be taken off course.
Remember why you are in it. Constantly. If you have to set physical reminders to keep you going, do it. Stickynotes, phone reminders/alerts, name it.
4. Take time to rest regularly. This will keep you refreshed. Helps avoid burnout. Keeps you motivated.
5 Just remember. You are in this ALONE. Dont expect that people will be at your beck and call. Everyone is dealing with their own stuff.
6. Discouragement.will.come. Your motivation is your responsibility.
I always think of the journey of a pregnant lady. No matter how many people surround her to give her support of any kind, she alone has to carry that pregnancy to term. And guess what? Only she can push to deliver her baby when the time comes.
Whatever you do, keep walking. Keep moving. And if you must crawl to get to the Finish Line, just do it.
Happy New Year.
